What’s the Issue?
On July 4th, 2025, the Big Beautiful Bill was signed into law. This legislation was proposed as the largest tax cut in American history, aimed at middle and working-class Americans. Its proponents claim that it demonstrates support for everyday people.
However, is this really the case, or is it merely a facade for deeper issues within the Trump Administration's plan?
While many individuals celebrate the notion of lower taxes—believing “lower taxes mean we get to keep more money”—there is a crucial trade-off. Many fail to recognize that these “low taxes” may not be worth the price.
One significant consequence outlined in the bill is the reduction of Medicaid, impacting countless families who depend on it. This includes vulnerable groups such as single mothers, veterans, and people with disabilities.
A Personal Lens - MetroHealth's Main Campus Hospital (Cleveland, OH)
As an intern at MetroHealth Hospital’s Main Campus, I witnessed the immediate shock among staff and patients. The consequences of this bill are profound. Approximately 40% of our patients rely on Medicaid for their healthcare needs. Without this coverage, many individuals may struggle to afford medications, surgeries, and routine care.
The effects extend beyond the patients. With reduced funding, hospitals will face significant financial strain, leading to a shortage of employment opportunities and essential resources.

Healthcare should never be a privilege reserved for the wealthy. It’s a basic human right. America should not be a place where individuals must resort to GoFundMe pages just to afford life-saving surgeries.
The government’s priorities appear skewed. By giving tax breaks to the wealthy, it seems to place profits over the lives of citizens who desperately need medical assistance. This is nothing short of a disgrace to democracy and the values we uphold as a nation.
The Ripple Effects of Healthcare Cuts
The ramifications of cutting Medicaid are far-reaching. Families are already stretched thin, and losing support can lead to dire consequences. Without adequate healthcare, many will face devastating health outcomes.
Disruptions in healthcare access can create a domino effect. Emergency services may become overwhelmed with preventable cases. Hospitals and clinics will face increased pressure as more people seek help for issues that could have been managed with proper care.
This not only strains medical resources but also increases healthcare costs in the long run. When care is delayed, conditions worsen and require more extensive treatment. Therefore, reducing accessible healthcare is both shortsighted and harmful.
