According to Feeding America, ONE in FIVE children suffers from hunger. That means over thirteen million kids don’t have enough food to have the proper nutrition to grow. The main cause of hunger in America comes from low wages, unemployment, and disability issues. When families have to spend more on inflated food, rent, or any kind of bills, they have less to spend on food.
Stated by the Food Research and Action Center, “In 2023, SNAP lifted 3.4 million people out of poverty, 1.3 million of whom were children, school meals lifted 1.2 million people out of poverty, 651,000 of whom were children, and WIC lifted 203,000 people out of poverty, 102,000 of whom were children.” Federal programs like SNAP and WIC are extremely important for U.S. citizens to have to ensure that those who may have disabilities, families that suffer from low wages, and more are able to access food.

Why is This Important?
The United States' current president, Donald J. Trump, is aiming to cut people off from SNAP. This includes single mothers, people who suffer from disabilities, and the working class. This is important because when you take something away from someone who needs it, they suffer more. If we let Trump take more funds away from families that need food to survive, the hunger rate will go up even higher.
How Can We Help?
We, as United States citizens, can help stop Donald J. Trump's attempts to cut SNAP from families that need it by using our voice. Ways that we can use our voice are signing petitions, emailing our state representatives, and being involved in local protests.
A way to help hunger around you is to donate to local food banks, volunteer at places that may be holding food distributions, and more!
