Zohran Mamdani Takes A Trip to the White House: Trump Displays His Excitement for Mamdani’s Future Plans

On November 21st, 2025, Zohran Mamdani, the New York City mayor-elect, came down to the White House to meet with Donald Trump regarding the topic of the affordability crisis in America, and specifically New York.
Behind the Scenes: How did Zohran Mamdani get here, and what does he bring to the table for New Yorkers?
Democratic Socialist, Zohran Mamdani, ran for the New York City mayor election, promising reform on issues like rent, free childcare, schooling, transportation, and more. Mamdani is also the first Muslim and South Asian mayor, as well as New York City’s youngest in over a century. His campaign was mainly based on affordability, and he used social media to intensely expand his campaign.
After winning against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the general election, Mamdani took a trip to Puerto Rico. He said “And you cannot tell the story of New York City without telling the city of Puerto Rico.” As a puertorican, I gained so much respect for Mamdani after he did this, because Puerto Ricans really do make a great change in America, and instead of calling it an “island of trash”, like President Donald Trump did, he visited it first thing after getting elected and recognized the importance Puerto Ricans have on New York City and America itself.
Trump has shown his hatred towards Mamdani, especially on how he will be completely “unsucessful”: “Self proclaimed New York City Communist, Zohran Mamdani, who is running for Mayor, will prove to be one of the best things to ever happen to our great Republican Party. He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what's the point of voting for him? This ideology has failed, always, for thousands of years. It will fail again, and that’s guaranteed! President DJT.” This has led Zohran Mamdani to request a meeting with President Donald Trump.
Zohran and Trump finally meet: The result is unexpectedly successful
After President Trump and the New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani had their meeting, they allowed the press to ask them questions. Trump displayed his excitement for Zohran Mamdani's future plans and said, “I think he is going to surprise some conservative people.”
When Zohran Mamdani was asked about a previous statement on calling Trump a fascist, Mamdani began to say “I’ve spoken about that–,” and Trump cut him off saying “That’s ok. You can just say yes,” Trump said. “That’s easier. It’s easier than explaining.”
In conclusion, Trump unexpectedly showed his approval of Zohran Mamdani, shocking everyone. Trump stated he plans to “help Mamdani instead of hurting him.”
