In recent years, the political landscape in the United States has become increasingly fractured. Where friendship and respectful disagreements once existed, animosity, volatility, and instability now prevail. This shift has become a nationwide phenomenon, tearing families, relationships, and our country apart.

The Impact of Political Violence

The aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk displays just how deeply the political divide has morphed into political violence. Shortly after the incident, many on the right began to label the killing as an “attack on free speech” and blamed the left before motives were confirmed (Times). The speed with which political figures of the right turned this tragedy into a right-wing rallying cry demonstrates how far people will go to push their agenda in this political war.

The School Shooting Crisis

Furthermore, this same war is being played out in the United States’ schools. School shootings have become increasingly common and tragically routine. These incidents are part of a bigger problem: gun violence. In light of the recurring horrors, state legislatures still refuse to change their votes on gun policy. Moreover, these mass shootings seem not to affect legislative behavior. This stubbornness and unwillingness to act further demonstrates that legislative will is now determined by agendas and politics rather than public safety and opinion.
